How to renew Residence Permit in Portugal 2025? The Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) has launched the Renewals Portal. Complete guide with step-by-step process, deadlines and practical tips.

Renewals Portal now available

The Residence Permit Renewals Portal is available for online applications, starting with permits expired in July 2025. Access will be gradually expanded to other months.

On July 11, 2025, AIMA announced the launch of the Renewals Portal, a digital platform that allows Residence Permit holders to renew their permit fully online. The goal is to simplify and speed up the process, reducing queues and bureaucracy.

How does the process work?

Steps to renew online

  1. Register on the Portal: The applicant registers and receives a password by email.
  2. Renewal request: After login, submits the application and documentation.
  3. Payment: The system generates a payment slip for the fees (payment available 24h after issuance).
  4. Receipt: After payment, a receipt is issued and the application analysis begins.
  5. Permit issuance: After approval, the new permit is issued.

Attention to deadlines and limitations

Phased availability

In this initial phase, only permits expired in July 2025 can be renewed through the Portal. Access will be gradually expanded.

Email notifications

Users with permits expired until June 30, 2025 are being notified by AIMA's Mission Structure to renew.

Important: If you don't have an updated email address, you should update it through the AIMA contact page.

Update email address

To receive renewal notifications, it is essential to have an updated email address in AIMA's system. If your email is not correct, you can update it through the official form.

How to update your email

  1. Access the AIMA contact form
  2. Fill in your personal data (name, NIF, process number)
  3. Select "Personal data update" as the reason
  4. Indicate the new email address
  5. Submit the form
