Portugal D7 Residence Visa for U.S. Citizens — 2026

Eligibility requirements
U.S. citizens (or green-card holders) with steady passive income — such as pensions, rentals, or dividends — that equals or exceeds €920 net per month may qualify for Portugal's D7 Residence Visa.
Passive income
Pension, rental, or investment income ≥ €920 / month (×12 months).
NIF & bank account
Portuguese tax number and a Portuguese bank account.
Bank balance
Portuguese statement showing ≥ €11,040 on deposit.
Accommodation
Signed 12-month lease in Portugal — or confirmed booking covering 12 months.
FBI background check
Certificate issued within the past 3 months and apostilled. No convictions in Portugal punishable by over one year.
Family accompany
Spouse and dependent children may join the main applicant if you show extra funds: 50% for a spouse and 30% per child.
